GTA 5 Is Already Leaving Xbox Game Pass Again
Though it returned to the platform only three months ago, a listing on the Xbox Game Pass mobile app suggests GTA 5 will leave the service soon.
The Xbox Game Pass mobile app indicates that after a three-month stint, Grand Theft Auto V will soon leave the service once again. GTA V returned to Games Pass in April 2021 for console and cloud users, though that didn't mark its first appearance on Microsoft's growing streaming platform.
Interestingly, the popular open-world title first joined Xbox Game Pass in January 2020, an undoubtedly exciting get for service. Though many games remain in the catalogue for a lengthy period of time, Grand Theft Auto V took its leave after only a handful of months in May. Its return in April, then, came as a surprise; however, there's now reason to believe the Grand Theft Auto entry's latest stint on Game Pass will soon come to an end.
According to TrueAchievements, GTA V currently sits in the "Leaving Soon" section on the Xbox Game Pass mobile app, though a specific date is not yet listed. TrueAchievements notes that while the games usually exit the service two weeks after receiving the "Leaving Soon" tag, the Grand Theft Auto title could exit as early as August 1 alongside the likes of It Lurks Below and Undermine.
This brief access period on Game Pass seems a pattern for Rockstar titles. As mentioned above, Grand Theft Auto V previously remained on the service for a few short months. Red Dead Redemption 2 similarly stuck around in a short-term capacity, joining Xbox Game Pass in May 2020 before exiting months later on September 7. At the time of writing, Microsoft has yet to announce a potential second run for the Red Dead prequel.
Grand Theft Auto V initially launched in late 2013 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms, then later migrated to PS4 and Xbox One. With a new console generation well underway, it's no surprise that Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive are once more going back to the very lucrative Los Santos-set well. This holiday season will see the celebrated open-world title launch yet again with native ports for PS5 and the Xbox Series X|S consoles. Though the developer previously teased a host of enhancements and brand-new features, the specifics have yet to see the light of day.
